Here at Green Acres Kennel Shop we're making May Dog Bite Prevention month. Why? Because fifty percent of all children will be bitten by a dog during their childhood. That's a statistic we want to help change.
Dogs communicate with each other and with us through body language. There are many signs that a dog gives with its body to tell us when they are upset or anxious and more likely to bite.
Some of the more overt signs include; a closed mouth, the body leaning forward, the tail up in the air, and showing their teeth while barking or snarling.
Less obvious signals include; yawning, licking their lips or nose, turning away, and sniffing.
To safely interact with dogs you need to learn their language. You can find more information on dog body language at our website, greenacres kennel.com in the Articles/Information section under dog bite prevention.
