Play biting, where your puppy grabs your hand or some other part and crunches down is a very normal behavior but one you will want and need to learn how to manage. The first thing to understand is that play biting is very different behavior from chewing so giving a puppy something to chew to stop play biting isn’t necessarily going to work. If you watch puppies play they wrestle and bite one another and when one bites too hard or plays too rough, they are ignored by the other puppy. That is the basis of teaching bite inhibition, something we do in our puppy classes. Bopping the pup on their nose, pinching their lips together, or in other ways attempting to intimidate or cause the pup stress are going to be counterproductive and damaging to the relationship between you and your puppy.
