In 2015 the American Animal Hospital Association published their Canine and Feline Behavior Management Guidelines, reporting that "More dogs and cats are affected by behavioral problems than any other condition."
Behavioral problems can be frustrating for you and your pet. Please do not delay in discussing them with your veterinarian. There is no evidence to suggest that pets will outgrow these problems.
The guidelines also recommend 'It is essential that clients ask trainers about specific tools and techniques used. If the tools or techniques include prong collars, shock
Collars, or leash/collar jerks/yanks, or if the trainer explains behavior in terms of ''dominance'' or throws anything at a dog, advise clients to switch trainers."
By addressing your pet's behavior problems in a prompt and kind manner, you can help make sure you and your pet remain best friends for life.
