Weruva Pet Food with Chris Langellotti-Part 2

Don and Kate continue their discussion about Weruva Pet Food with Chris Langellotti. This week we talk about Weruva's benefits for cats that may have health issues such as urinary tract problems, diabetes, and even food allergies. We talk about the digestive system of the cat and the fact that they are carnivores and as such depend on protein and fat in their diet, meat, versus carbohydrates which are a predominant ingredient in many pet foods. Chris also talks about product labeling, especially as it relates to the amount of fat in a can of food. Typically a gram of protein has 4 calories whereas a gram of fat has 9, over twice the number of calories. When you look at the label of a can of cat food and you see 10% protein and 5% fat you logically think it has twice as much protein, but from a caloric perspective you are actually getting 45 calories from fat versus 40 calories from protein. That's too much fat. Which is why Weruva hand fillets the cuts of meat before they go into the can, removing bones, skin and excess fat, which means our pets get only the fat they need and nothing more. A can of Weruva typically has 10% protein and only 1.4% fat. This makes Weruva a good choice for obese pets. We also discussed how pet food cans labeled 95% meat can be misleading. It's not the same as when we buy ground beef for ourselves and it's labeled. 95% lean. A can of pet food labeled 95% meat can be as much as 6% protein and 11% fat which means that 75% of the calories are coming from fat! Another advantage of Weruva is that they keep the moisture levels in their food equivalent to living flesh. This is important because cats depend on getting the water they need from the food they eat.
