Here at Green Acres Kennel Shop we're making May Dog Bite Prevention month. Why? Because fifty percent of all children will be bitten by a dog during their childhood. That's a statistic we want to help change.
In most cases when a child is bitten by a dog, it is a dog that the child already knows. Either the family pet, that of a neighbor, or that of another friend or family member. Seldom is a child bitten by a stray, unknown dog running at large.
Dog bites do not have to happen. In most cases a dog gives several warnings before they feel they have no choice other than to bite. When people don't know how to interpret those signs they may react in a manner which actually makes a bite more likely.
Learning to read a dog's body language will not only help you prevent dog bites but it will also make the relationship with your dog even more enjoyable.
