Tonight’s guest is Author Jack Bales. Jack is a recently retired Reference and Humanities librarian at the University of Mary Washington located in Fredericksburg, VA. He also for the past 40 years has been a writer with eight books to his credit covering a wide variety of subjects from Horatio Alger, Jr. to Willie Morris to the Chicago Cubs.
He is also a member of the Society of American Baseball Researchers and has written numerous articles about his beloved Chicago Cubs for various publications.
Tonight we will be discussing Jack’s latest release “The Chicago Cub Shot for Love: A Showgirl’s Crime of Passion and the 1932 World Series” which was released last week on June 21.
The book tells the tale of Chicago Cubs Billy Jurges who was shot in 1932 by a woman named Violet Popovich with whom Jurges had been romantically involved and how his shooting set the stage for one of the most dramatic moments in World Series history
