This podcast is a good one for all the entrepreneurs out there who think about really innovative solutions to fight climate change.
Today we feature Pasi Vainikka, a scientist who turned into an Entrepreneur because he had to!
In the face of the challenge to find alternatives to our current way of creating food and to directly tackle climate change Dr. Pasi Vainikka turned his two research projects Neocarbonenergy (http://www.neocarbonenergy.fi/) and Neocarbonfood (http://neocarbonfood.fi/) into a new startup called Solarfoods (https://solarfoods.fi/).
His goal is to find a way to create food without using the traditional methods. Why, you ask?
Because if you think about it, normally we use farmland which we for example burn areas of rainforests for just to place crops on, which are really resource-intensive requiring a lot of water. Additionally, for a lot of farming land there are synthetic fertilizers being used which kill beneficial microorganisms in the soil that convert dead human and plant remains into nutrient-rich organic matter. Nitrogen- and phosphate-based synthetic fertilizers leach into groundwater and increase its toxicity, causing water pollution. Fertilizers that leach into streams, rivers, lakes and other bodies of water disrupt aquatic ecosystems. Therefore he is literally reimagining the whole system of creating foods.
Independent from farmland. Requiring less water.
And well based on microbes.. Which sounds awkward, but Pasi has a great way of explaining that.
It is similar to brewing beer... I told you this podcast is different... ^^
