Do I need to purchase Adobe Acrobat? That is the question that many of my clients have asked me over there years. I don’t have a yes or no answer. Say it with me “It Depends”.
It depends on what your needs are. Do you need to create and edit advanced PDF documents? If yes then by all means pay for Adobe Acrobat. It is one of the best PDF creating and editing packages availble. It is a very powerful tool that makes creating advanced PDF documents easily. Do you just need to convert existing documents to PDF? Then no, don’t buy Adobe Acrobat. You can save to PDF with most modern office document suites. Microsoft Office, Open Office and LibreOffice all support saving a document as a PDF file. You can also install one of the multitudes of PDF printers. I prefer PDFCreator. It’s easy to use but has lot’s of powerful features for the more advanced users.
PDF documents that need special features should be created by Adobe Acrobat. PDF files that are a copy of a current document, and that do not need to be edited do not have to be created by Adobe Acrobat.
