Jesus' sermon on the mount, especially the litany of "Beatitudes," is one of the most well-known passages in Scripture.  Many of its lines are familiar to us:  "Blessed are the poor in Spirit..Blessed are those who hunger...Blessed are the peacemakers..." These blessings are not quaint platitudes, but a radical claim about the movement of God's Kingdom come.  Jesus intends for these blessings to disorient us, to disrupt the status quo, and turn everything on its head. In this message, we take a fresh look at Jesus' beatitudes. What blessing might we need to disrupt our old patterns and ways?

First Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18-31

Second Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
