Ms. Tonya Michelle Wilkerson is the instructor, motivational speaker and founder of a new social media poetry website and streaming podcast community called Spoken Wordplay. Ever since early childhood, she has been a compassionate & caring person always willing to help anyone physically disable in need of a helping hand. By Ms. Wilkerson’s early to late 20’s, she knew there has been a bigger calling in her life and has chosen to help people with their problems. December of 1991, Ms. Wilkerson decides to earn a CNA license to help people in need of daily living & medical assistance within a long-term nursing home, hospitals & in-home living environments for over 20 years. Ms. Wilkerson has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to start her own healthcare business & decides to go back to school to earn a BS Degree in Business Administration. While attending college, Ms. Wilkerson decides to make history, In April of 2006, she became one of the first Black African American sisters in business to co-own a Drop-off Laundromats & Dry-Cleaners called “Fresh Start Laundry” and “Dirty Harry’s” in two central locations. Unfortunately, both locations closed down after 2 to 5 years in business due to 2007 Economic Recession. However, Ms. Wilkerson didn’t let that stop her from becoming the first sibling in the family to graduate from a university, May of 2014. Throughout the years, Ms. Wilkerson has been working with (K-12) grade students as a Substitute Teacher & Paraprofessional for 8 years within the special education public school sector. She believes that every student regardless of their physical & social capabilities is smart enough to learn and become successful young adults by building up their strengths, helping to protect them from being at risk of developing mental health problems & providing the tools for students to succeed in their life’s journey.
