The main role you have is that of a son or daughter of God
Mark 10:17-22 (NLT) As Jesus was starting out on His way to Jerusalem, a man [a rich young ruler] came running up to Him, knelt down, and asked, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit [get, obtain, have] eternal life?" 18 "Why do you call Me good?" Jesus asked. "Only God is truly good. 19 But to answer your question, you know the commandments: 'You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone [love your neighbor as yourself]. Honor your father and mother. '" 20 "Teacher," the man replied, "I've obeyed all these commandments since I was young." 21 Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. "There is still one thing you haven't done," He told him. "Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me." 22 At this, the man's face [countainence] fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
(MSG) 21 Jesus looked him hard in the eye––and loved him! He said, "There's one thing left: Go sell whatever you own and give it to the poor. All your wealth will then be heavenly wealth. And come follow Me." 22 The man's face clouded over. This was the last thing he expected to hear, and he walked off with a heavy heart. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and not about to let go.
 
The one thing that the rich young ruler was missing was sonship
You are not what you do, but what you do can be a reflection of how you see yourself
Pastor Larry Stockstill said, Fathering releases destiny, and until someone is fathered they will not fulfill their destiny.
Matthew 3:17 (NLT) "This is My dearly loved Son, who brings Me great joy."
1. A father gives Identity: You are my son
2. A father gives validity: I love you
3. A father gives affirmation: I am proud of you, I delight in you.

Matthew 17:5 (NLT) "This is My dearly loved Son, who brings Me great joy. Listen to him."  Jesus is our perfect example of how to be a good son.
1. A good son listens for instruction 
2. A good son delights in discipline
3. A good son knows there’s life in connecting hearts with his father.
4. A good son desires to please his father.
5. A good son is loyal to and consistent in the character of his father.
Psalm 2:7 (NASB) "I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You [today I have become your Father, Today is your birthday].
