Who (or what) is God? Like other Christian faiths, the Church of Jesus Christ teaches that God is perfect, all-knowing, all-powerful, and loves us far more than we can comprehend in this life. Like our fellow Christians, we follow Christ’s command to address Him as Our Father in Heaven and thank Him for loving us so much that He would send His Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer for our mistakes and qualify us to live with God after this life. Because God loves us, He has given us His word so we can learn about Him, develop the faith necessary to find our way through this life, and find true joy.
But the Church of Jesus Christ also teaches additional truths from God’s word not commonly taught in many other Christian faiths. We differ in a few key points:
God is the Father of our spirits
From God’s word, we learn that we are not just God’s creations, but His children. He is the literal Father of our spirits, and we lived with God before coming to this life. And God’s greatest desire is for us to develop His attributes of love, patience, and righteousness so we can find joy in this life and in the life to come.
God the Father has a physical body
We believe that Heavenly Father is not some amorphous entity “without parts or passions,” but that He has a physical body of flesh and bones as we do. He is perfect and all-powerful, yet He is knowable and relatable.
