WELCOME TO THE LAST EPISODE OF 2018!
Julia is a new favorite powerhouse of mine! I met her at a community-based event called Expressions of Intimacy. This was the latest in a series she runs, called Expressions of Self, where each installment centers around a particular topic relating to how we define ourselves.
She is currently pursuing a Master's degree at UBC's School of Population & Public Health, focusing on a qualitative study that investigates primary antenatal care provider perspectives regarding anxiety & depression during pregnancy.
Most importantly for today, she is the creator "So I had an Abortion", a multimedia platform aiming to destigmatize abortion through storytelling. Julia bravely tells us her story, and goes into depth as to how sharing your experiences can be helpful with reducing anxiety and shame.
We naturally digress and run into topics far and wide: imagining fertility problems, family dynamics, morality and shame, UNlearning, STD's, storytelling, reproductive justice issues and grief. (The words she was looking for around 47' are "relative privilege and competitive victimization.")
You can find out more at www.soihadanabortion.squarespace.com , on Twitter and Facebook @soIhadanabort and on Insta @soihadanabortion. You can also go to www.expressionsofself.com for the 2019 events!
Thank you so much for listening in on this incredible first year of rabbit holes. May we all have gained some knowledge from each other's experiences and feel more connected to our common humanity.
I love you.
Speak to you in January. xox
