La missione Envelope Blue fu una delle prima missioni organizzate interamente dal SOE ad essere paracadutata in Italia nell'estate del 1944. La sua storia è quindi fatta di false partenze, errori, e molti tentativi andati a vuoto. Ma è anche un'esperienza "didattica" sia per gli agenti che per i comandi, che capiscono molte cose sui partigiani e sulle loro stesse capacità di aiutarli. Il maggiore Jim Davies, atterrato sull'Appennino a sud di Parma si trova fin da subito in una situazione spinosa, stretto tra rastrellamenti nemici, la fame, e partigiani che stanno perdendo la loro fiducia nelle promesse di rifornimenti.

The Envelope Blue missio was among the first entirely SOE missions to be deployed in Italy in the summer of 1944. Its story is made of false starts, mistakes and failed attempts. But it is also a "learning" experience, both for the agents and the Commands, who will learn a lot about the partisans and how to best help them. Major Jim Davies, parachuted on the Appennine south of Parma, found himself in a delicate situation right away, between enemy attacks and hunger, while the partisans grew more and more disillusioned with the promised supplies.
