I recently had some time off in my schedule and decided to buy shoes at Nordstrom and look for a Mercedes-Benz SUV. (Oh yes, a girl can go crazy shopping!) Visiting these separate places allowed me to see how salespeople can make their customers hate or love them.

✔️After getting the pairs of shoes that I needed, I was happy walking away from Nordstrom's. I had some new boots and an outstanding customer service experience. I felt great moving on to my next errands and had a fantastic day. When working with our clients, how do we make sure they go back to their lives happy, amazed and content with the service we provide them?
✔️There were a handful of guys in this Mercedes-Benz showroom that I visited, and not one made eye contact and bothered to accommodate a client who just walked in. I was moving around, trying to get someone to assist me. Right then and there, even if I had ready money -- I would never buy my car from them.
✔️ My unpleasant buying experience is not removed from how society continues to regard a person of color. I can't pretend that that might not have had a role in that scenario. It requires the conversation on how companies and service-based entrepreneurs must focus on creating a welcoming space as they do business and look at how well they are implementing what we have long been fighting for inclusivity and fairness.
✔️ One of my favorite things is the comments I receive from my clients. They share that they feel seen; they are comforted that I understand them and hold their hand as they try to become their best selves. How can you do the same for the people you serve?
