The Minnesota Hard Bop Collective exists to preserve the jazz era of hard bop, from the 1950s onward. It explores not only the music of the artists of the period, but the improvisatory approach to playing. Jesse Simon started the project, and he told Phil Nusbaum that starting it was for him a family thing.
