In this episode of Interpersonal, we talk with Dr. Dominic Parrott, professor at Georgia State University and director of the Center for Research on Interpersonal Violence. We talk about Dr. Parrott's 2022 paper, Intimate Partner Aggression During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Associations with Stress and Heavy Drinking. We explore both what the team found, and what the process - and responsibility - of conducting inclusive interpersonal violence research during COVID-19. 

In this episode of Interpersonal, we spoke with Dr. Amy Hyoeun Lee, a Clinical Psychology Postdoc at Stony Brook University. This episode covers a range of topics including Dr. Lee's training experiences, insight into navigating the academic job market, and discussing her line of research which aims to increase evidence-based trauma services for youth from marginalized communities. Dr. Lee's recent publication, Examining the Effectiveness of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Children and Adolescents' Executive Function is now in press!

In this episode of Interpersonal, we talk with Dr. Francesca Kassing about her recent publication, The Effects of Polyvictimization on Mental and Physical Health Outcomes in an LGBTQ Sample. Dr. Kassing addresses the importance of political and cultural context in research with marginalized populations, her use of person-centered research and analysis, and her perspective on areas for improvement in research with LGBTQ+ communities. Dr. Kassing is a Clinical Psychologist and Research Faculty at the University of Nevada Reno.

On this episode of Interpersonal, we meet with Dr. Emily Dworkin to discuss her recent publication, The impact of sociocultural contexts on mental health following sexual violence: A conceptual model (currently in press). Dr. Dworkin discusses a model for understanding recovery following sexual assault which takes responsibility for recovery off of survivors and shifts it toward larger systems, cultural norms, and responsiveness of close social supports, emphasizing the importance of context on recovery. Dr. Dworkin is a clinical psychologist and Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

In this episode of Interpersonal, we talk with Esther Howe, a graduate student and member of the Idiographic Dynamics (ID) Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley and Zoe Zong, an undergraduate research assistant in the ID Laboratory. Esther and Zoe discuss a recent study which aims to understand the development of PTSD symptoms in survivors of sexual assault. They address issues related to project development, ethical responsibility to research participants, and recruitment of participants during an acute post-assault time period.

Welcome to Episode 3 of Interpersonal! In this episode, Aggie and Hannah interview Dr. Miguel Villodas about a new pilot study his team ran examining the feasibility of implementing home-based Parent-Child Interaction Therapy with families deemed at-risk for child maltreatment. This episode covers topics spanning implementation, measurement, and building community partnerships.

Every year the Child Maltreatment and Interpersonal Violence Special Interest Group (CMIV SIG) sponsors a keynote address at our annual meeting. This year, 2020, Dr. Isha Metzger spoke about her research on racial socialization and addressing interpersonal and racial trauma in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), emphasizing her work with youth of color. She highlighted connections to interpersonal violence and child maltreatment work and provided tangible examples of how clinicians can take up findings from her research in their clinical work.
