Kids don’t come with an instruction manual, right!? It’s true…but Jeffrey and Amy Olrick’s book The 6 Needs of Every Child is at the top of my list—it is the BEST parenting book on the market!
I’m not kidding. Even with three kids and three degrees + years of babysitting and nannying for other people’s kids, I still learned so, so, so much from reading their book. It was also the perfect middle ground for my husband and I to talk about parenting as individuals and together as a couple. It gave us the words to describe development and challenges.
Jeffrey and Amy are so charming: they’re a husband and wife duo who co-authored this incredible resource for parents. They offer us a mash up of neuroscience we can understand, their years of parenting experience, stories, humor, and decades of Jeff’s psychological research. They are here to give parents so much peace by helping readers (& listeners) transform our understanding of parenting—they offer us a much needed reframe: to see parenting not so much as a “job” but as a relationship.
They help us move out of those tough parenting moments with a little more grace by encouraging us to move beyond the hang up of “what do I do?” and into the mindset of “how shall I be with this person?”
Their perspective is refreshing, honest, and practical. It’s just the compassionate, easy to understand parenting book we need these modern times.
