PSALM 20:This is a prayer for the nation of Israel and their king, asking for national security in time of war. LUKE 13:In the second half of Luke 12, Jesus taught about being ready for his return, and to be ready for division that would come about because of Jesus himself. GNT Translation notes:Lev. 20:23 Do not adopt the customs of the people who live there; I am driving out those [ungodly people groups//pagans] so that you can enter the land. They have disgusted me with all their evil practices.====Ps. 20:8 [Those others//Such people] will stumble and fall, but we will rise and stand firm.====Luk. 13:33 Yet I must be on my way today, tomorrow, and the next day; it is not right for a prophet to be killed anywhere [else] except in Jerusalem. NLT Translation notes:Ps. 20:7 Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,but we boast [because of the reputation //in the name] of the LORD our God.====Luk. 12:18 [Then Jesus introduced his teaching by asking, “What is the Kingdom of God like? Here is how I illustrate it.//Then Jesus said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? How can I illustrate it?][Even though English does use rhetorical questions, we don’t often use them to introduce teachings like Jesus did. Many languages in the world only use rhetorical questions for rebuking. Often translators do as I have done here so that Jesus doesn’t sound like he is groping around for what to say.]20 [Next he said, “Here is another illustration of the Kingdom of God.//He also asked, “What else is the Kingdom of God like?]31 At that time some Pharisees said to him, “Get away from here if you want to live! [King/0] Herod Antipas wants to kill you!”
