Wahoo, we made it to 20 episodes! Have we figured out how to do this thing in the most professional way possible? Hell no! But since when has that stopped us? Zane continues his fiction podcast roll with Motel Americana, Liz follows in his footsteps with the serialised radio play Sandra, and Patrick tries to tickle our funny bones with the comedy offering Your Mom's House. Then we get stuck into the reviews from last week's podcast recommendation.
Liz Recommends - Sandra
Sandra is a radio play style of podcast starring Alia Shawkat and Kristen Wiig. This podcast is a twisted look at the world of virtual assistants aka Siri and Alexa, and the world we are creating when devices can listen in to our lives. The offical blurb reads: "Helen’s always dreamed of ditching her hometown, so when she lands a job at the company that makes Sandra, everyone's favorite A.I., she figures it’s the next-best thing. But working behind the curtain isn’t quite the escape from reality that Helen expected."
Liz binged the crap out of this but she brought it to the table because she desperately wanted to know what the other Castologists thought of the ending.
For both: This is another serial so start at the start and go as far as you want.
Pat Recommends - Your Mom's House
From the minds of my favourite comedy couple, Your Mom's House is non stop, top notch toilet humour. Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky host this outlandish, weekly comedy podcast. Each week they'll often have another comedian on or comedians on to discuss all things everything and all in between. Other weeks they won't have a guest, they'll simply bask in the glory of their loving marriage. So come on in, give this one a try, even if for a just a quick glass.
For Zane and Liz: Pick a guest that appeals to you.
Zane Recommends - Motel Americana Podcast
Another submission! And it is also a fiction podcast! Motel Americana is a short story podcast consisting of odd and lovely tales set in a crummy motel in Jersey circa the 1980’s. The stories here run the literary gamut, from sci-fi and horror to comedy and romance. The premise is that these stories were written by Oscar Garrett, a teenager who lived at the motel with his family and evidently bugged the rooms because the tales are clearly based on actual audio surveillance recordings of the lodgers that stayed at the motel. The podcast is hosted by Jack Same who is a one man team which makes the content even more impressive!
