Welcome to Business Minds, a podcast proudly brought to you by Sydney Hills Business Chamber.

Our show aims to both educate and inspire business owners – big or small – by sharing stories and extensive experience from like-minded people.

I am your host, Fiona Kane, and today I’m chatting with Katherine Pinczuk about 'The power of self-compassion: How to thrive in the workplace and beyond.'

About Katherine Pinczuk

Katherine Pinczuk, the founder of MindLight, is an Internationally Qualified Meditation Teacher. She is an executive member of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists and the International Meditation Teachers and Therapists Association.

Katherine holds a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) with Distinction, from the University of Western Sydney. Katherine, is also a published author and has presented at the Sydney Writers Festival.

As the Founder of MindLight, Katherine has made it her mission to help people ‘become their own lantern in the dark.’  She unwaveringly believes that we all deserve to live a life of wellbeing, vitality and joy.  Katherine has collaborated with global wellbeing platforms, luxury resorts and  facilitates at retreats, however, still finds teaching people on a one to one basis, about  how to  incorporate meditation into their busy daily lives, one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.

Katherine’s passion for exploring various philosophies and her ongoing commitment to researching the scientific evidence supporting the value of meditation techniques have synthesised into offerings that are both innovative and leading-edge.

Katherine lives on acreage with Boris - a Lagotto Romagnolo.  As a testament to the state of peace and serenity that mediation can create, you will often find Boris completely chilled out under the desk during on-line sessions! At other times, he’s a bit of a live-wire, so does not attend in-person events.

Questions:

  • Why the current interest in self-compassion as an antidote to modern day stress in the workplace?

  • What is self-compassion?  A lot of people have this image that it’s a sort of whoosy thing – going to bed and hiding under the covers all day!

  • Can you tell us what some of the scientific evidence is for supporting the benefits of self-compassion?

  • How do we develop the skill of self-compassion?

  • Can you explain what Mindfulness is?

  • If I’m listening and wondering where to start, where do I begin?

Ep9: John Drury - How does work serve your life?

Welcome to Business Minds, a podcast proudly brought to you by Sydney Hills Business Chamber.

Our show aims to both educate and inspire business owners – big or  small – by sharing stories and extensive experience from like-minded  people.

I am your host, Fiona Kane, and today I’m chatting with John Drury on 'How does work serve your life?'

    About John

After 24 years of Senior Leadership experience in the Not-for-Profit sector, and 2 years as General Manager of a small business in Western Sydney, John launched his business mentoring consultancy in May 2010.

The community organisation John founded in the Blue Mountains grew to over 1000 members, serving many more each month locally and thousands more through strategic partnerships in 5 nations.

John understands the very different challenges that face a leader as an organisation grows. He understands how to build a team from 0 - 40 paid staff, how to raise millions of dollars for operations and for buildings, and how to empower leaders.

John has found that the same principles of leadership work well with volunteers and paid staff. The bottom line is that people love being part of a healthy organisation where they are valued, where there is a chance to grow, where significant things are being achieved and where they can build great relationships. He brings this experience to the MyCommunity portfolio which is all about enabling greater engagement of members within the Chamber.

Since 2010, John has worked as a Mentor to business owners with teams. His ‘whole of life’ approach enables busy high achievers to better integrate work with all that is important in their lives. His book ‘INTEGRATE’ was published in 2016.

John is married to Jo and is the father of 3 amazing adult daughters and is a very energetic and proud 'Pop' to 7 beautiful grandchildren. He loves to be physically fit believing regular exercise is a key to both physical and mental health.

Ep6: John Mason - Quality and assurance systems and how they can add value to your business

Ep6: John Mason - Quality and assurance systems and how they can add value to your business

Welcome to Business Minds, a podcast proudly brought to you by the Sydney Hills Business Chamber.

Our show aims to both educate and inspire business owners – big or small – by sharing stories, and extensive experience from like-minded people.

I am your host, Jason Owen and today I am chatting with John Mason about Quality and Assurance systems and how they can add value to your business.

As the author of 2 books with nearly 30 plus years in business, John developed his own 24/7 virtual quality management platform. He has a 100% certification first-time track record and a client list including Comsol, Data Tools, Sydney Hills Business Chamber, Volkswagen, Monash University and Hyundai.

They are one of only a few Quality Assurance providers to be quality, environmental, safety and information security certified themselves.

For John, it's all about providing solutions that are easy to implement and maintain whilst meeting your compliance needs.

    Questions:

    • How do you, as a business owner, see the value in attaining that level of compliance?
    • Getting business’s to engage with the process of compliance is one thing, but getting them to maintain that effort can require a change in culture.  How do we as business’s owners ensure we get that buy-in across the whole business?
    • People have preconceived ideas about how things work or how they will play out.  This generally ends with a, ‘that's the way we have always done it’ comment.  Tell me, how do you crack that psyche or deadlock?
