All relationships are complex and challenging and can come with disagreements and squabbles where regrettable things are said and done in the heat of the moment. It's not uncommon that people in abusive relationships often misunderstand their situation and don't recognize it as classic abuse. Abusive relationships rarely start out that way. In fact the opposite is usually the case, they start off seeming perfect. It's often a gradual progression over time and dangerous escalation is very common.
