A discussion on middle parts of trilogies.
The middle part of a trilogy has a unique problem to tackle: be a coherent, stand alone story that also bridges the beginning and end of a much larger story. We're not talking about, like, Godfather part II which was supposed to be the end of the series; or, like, Toy Story 2 which doesn't really tightly link Toy Story and Toy Story 3. Rather, we're thinking about making a good movie and a good story out of an incomplete saga.
But really, we're just excited to finally do Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings
Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back stars Linus Larrabee, the therapist from Austin Powers, and Cliff Clavin as the Rebel Alliance destroys no Death Stars. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers features the cannibal from Sin City, the man who rode Hidalgo in Hidalgo, and the new Zelda Spellman as they all walk around a whole bunch.
